Prove sufficient means of subsistence
Once our departmental coordinator in Mobility Online approves your application, you will need to prove that you have the required necessary means to cover your healthcare, living expenses, and study and repatriation costs for the period of your International Semester Programme.
OPTION 1: CERTIFICATE OF SUFFICIENT MEANS OF SUBSISTENCE
You transfer the means of subsistence for the period of your International Semester Programme to the blocked account of Artevelde University of Applied Sciences. The amount is transferred back to your Belgian bank account in instalments of 789 euros per month (amount applicable for the academic year 2023-2024). We advise you to choose this option for a smooth student visa application process at the Belgian Embassy/Consulate.
Step 1: Send an email to the international office
Send a confirmation email to incoming@arteveldehs.be with:
- The subject line of the email: Proof of Sufficient Means of Subsistence;
- Duration (in months) + name of the International Semester Programme;
- Your first name and last name (complete name as written on your passport);
- Email address of the Belgian Embassy/Consulate in your country where you will apply for a student visa
Once we receive your email, we will send you our payment details (bank account number + amount) asap.
The payment deadline for the sufficient means of subsistence is 30 June (Autumn Semester) or 1 December (Spring Semester) to enable a timely visa application.
Step 2: Certificate of Sufficient Means of Subsistence + apply for a visa
After confirmation of your payment by our Financial Department, we will send you and the Belgian Embassy/Consulate where you plan to apply for your student visa the Certificate of Sufficient Means of Subsistence in hard copy (PDF form).
The Sufficient Means of Subsistence Certificate will allow you to apply for a student visa. The minimum waiting time for visa processing is approximately four weeks, but it could take up to 3 months. Therefore, submit your visa application on time (The earliest to start your visa application is three months before the start of our programme).
Please contact our International Office (incoming@arteveldehs.be) for more information or questions.
OPTION 2: SPONSOR
You have a sponsor who can demonstrate that he/she has sufficient resources to take over responsibility from you for the period of our International Semester Programme. You will need to fill out the Annex 32 document at the Embassy. Please get in touch with the Belgian Embassy/Consulate in your country for more information or questions.
OPTION 3: KA 107 ERASMUS MOBILITY
Only applicable for exchange students in an Erasmus+ mobility project framework between EU countries and non-EU countries. These students, receiving a scholarship from Artevelde University of Applied Sciences, will be contacted directly by the project coordinator and will receive a scholarship certificate to prove sufficient means of subsistence. This certificate can be used for visa applications. Please get in touch with our International Office (international@arteveldehs.be) for more information or questions.
OPTION 4: ERASMUS EU STUDENTS WHO RECEIVED A GRANT FROM THEIR HOME INSTITUTION
Only applicable to EU students who received a grant from their home institution. Please get in touch with your home institution or the Belgian Embassy/Consulate in your country for more information or questions.
