Enrolling as an exchange student

You deposit the required amount into a blocked account held by the university. Each month during your exchange, a portion of the total funds will be transferred from the blocked account into a Belgian bank account that you will open. The university will provide guidance on opening this required Belgian bank account.

For the 2023-2024 academic year, the amount deposited into the blocked account is 789 euros per month of stay.

Choosing the blocked account option is advised, as it will help smooth the student visa application process at the Belgian Embassy/Consulate.

To start this procedure, send the following information to us at incoming@arteveldehs.be:

• ​Subject: Proof of Sufficient Means of Subsistence
• You first name and last name as written on your passport
• Your date and place of birth
• Your chosen study programme at Artevelde University of Applied Sciences
• Your period of stay: Semester 1: September-January OR Semester 2: February-June OR Full academic year
• Contact email of the local Belgian Embassy/Consulate where you will apply for your visa

Once we receive your email, we will send you a payment request for the total required amount.

To ensure a timely visa application, we advise you to transfer the sufficient means of subsistence:

• Before 30 June: for an exchange starting in the first semester (September - January)
• Before 1 December: for an exchange in the second semester (February - June)

Having a qualified financial sponsor allows an alternative path for fulfilling the financial requirements. This sponsor must demonstrate that they have adequate financial resources to assume responsibility for your support during the entirety of your stay.

For this option, you will need to complete the Annex 32 document at the Embassy. If you have any questions about this, please contact your local Belgian Embassy/Consulate.  

This option applies to exchange students participating in an ERASMUS exchange mobility between Artevelde University of Applied Sciences and an institution from a non-EEA country which is part of the ERASMUS network (e.g. Türkiye).

Students selected to receive an ERASMUS scholarship from their home institution will receive a certificate from their home institution’s International Office. 

If the total scholarship amount is less than the minimum required living costs, additional proof of funds may still need to be submitted. In this case, students should contact their local Belgian embassy or consulate for guidance on documenting any supplemental financial support.

This option is only for students participating in an Erasmus+ international exchange mobility program between Artevelde University of Applied Sciences and eligible non-EU countries.

Students selected to receive an Erasmus+ scholarship from Artevelde University of Applied Sciences will be directly assisted by the university's Erasmus+ project coordinator. The coordinator will contact the scholarship recipient and provide an official certificate verifying the awarded grant. This certificate serves to prove the student has sufficient financial support to cover living costs during their time abroad. It can then be submitted as part of any visa application paperwork required by the Belgian embassy or consulate.

By obtaining the grant certificate from the coordinator, no additional proof of funds is needed. The certificate alone demonstrates the student's financial resources through the Erasmus+ scholarship for their exchange semester.
