Bachelor

International Graphic and Digital Media

Taught in English, 180 ECTS, shortened study track possible, Campus Mariakerke

Programme

Design functional media tailor-made for the user

You learn how to make appealing, valuable media and experiment with different technologies. You know how to analyse the user experience and how this results in insights into what media products to use to reach your target audience.

During your first year, we lead you through the wonderful world of the web and mobile. There are no hardcore programming skills here, but a basic understanding will allow you to create fun and interactive websites and apps or interfaces easily.

Audiovisual media is also part of this programme. Discerning the workflow process leads to interactive digital products and effective audiovisual content. Your creative confidence will be boosted, for sure.

Graphic skills

We update your design skills by exploring Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and other alternative design software packages. In addition, we train your sense of what appealing design can be so that you can create your own stylish media products.

Intercultural skills

And last but not least, we want you to develop into an empathetic communications professional. We provide an international environment where you can interact with international students. This will help you establish a global network that will lead to contacts with international students, organisations, entrepreneurs, and alumni.

In some 23 hours of weekly classes, you will work on assignments, process lesson materials, and prepare for all sorts of tasks. In total, you have some 40 hours per week ahead of you. Our class groups range from some 18 to 70 students, depending on the nature of the course. Practical courses, for instance, will be organised in smaller groups, whereas theoretical classes will be organised in larger groups.

First year

Media Production is our common thread throughout the programme. In these courses, you get to know several relevant and innovative technologies. In addition, you cover the process of creating a media product. Courses such as Graphic Design, Digital Content Production, and Visual Lab will teach you to compose layouts and experiment with visuals in the Adobe Creative Suite.

First and foremost, you learn how to create a working media product. To do so, it's imperative that you understand the needs and wants of your user. Design Research and User Experience will teach you how to fully grasp a possible problem situation regarding research methods and techniques. All of this leads to a practical and visually appealing result.

Expert tracks

Digital Strategy & Development

You will research and analyse how the user perceives the website, app, or web application and provide strategic advice to optimise applications. We will introduce you to different methodologies, tools, and technologies in web and digital media, so you will eventually be able to take the lead in this digital and creative process. We will introduce you to Service Design, Design Thinking, User Experience and User Interface Design, and think about user-friendly digital products and websites and how you can use technology to achieve a complete user experience.

Story Design

You learn to tell a story that is not only coherent, clear, and compelling but also tailored to the needs of your target audience. You'll learn to use the appropriate channels, tools, and technologies. Story design focuses on digital storytelling and how you can use it in content marketing, among other things. We introduce you to the different media and techniques for creating valuable content that informs and engages your target audience.

See the ECTS sheets for more information about each course unit.
