Programme

The International Organisation and Management programme is unique in Belgium! Artevelde University of Applied Sciences is the only institution that offers this professional bachelor's degree programme entirely taught in English. This study programme combines general business courses with intensive language training.

In addition to the subjects that are specific to Business & Languages, we will immerse you in fields such as Intercultural Communication Skills and Process and Lean Management.

With this broad background, you can occupy a vital role in any (international) company!

The combination of languages, ICT and internationally oriented courses provides me a window to the world. What a view!

Sasha - First-year student

First year

Throughout the year, the course Talent Lab 1 will help you to survive your journey in higher education. These workshops and coaching sessions will support your search on how to plan and organise your studies, how to work in teams, how to give and receive feedback, etc. You will also discover your strengths and points of improvement, which will help you to make decisions in the future.

In the first year of the programme you get a variety of general business courses to make sure you are ready to kick-start your career as an international office manager. In International Office Management, you will start two foreign languages: at AUAC you can take French, German, Spanish and Chinese or choose a foreign language of your own choice at an external accredited institution.

You will dive into Business Basics and learn all about management in general. In small teams, you will visit an international company or organisation based in Belgium, and discover how the theory is translated into practice. This field trip is part of your practical project. Thanks to ICT Toolkit, you will discover the ins and outs of Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel.

Courses such as Intercultural Communication Skills, will train your skills to survive in a globalised world. Discover what cultures have in common and what makes them different from each other. You will become aware of your own cultural background and learn how to cope and network with people in intercultural environments.

In the second semester you will study the basics of Economics. You also immediately get the international component in courses like International Law and International Marketing.

Second year

In the second year, you deepen your knowledge of your chosen Foreign Languages. Furthermore, you’ll continue to specialise in domains that are important for future international office managers. In Process and lean management, you will learn how companies improve their processes and make them more efficient every day. In Graphic Media Management you will learn to work with Photoshop and InDesign. Copywriting focuses on writing for the web, the 21st century medium.

Last but not least, you can choose an elective, a course of your own choice. You can choose to deepen your knowledge or human resource management. In the first semester, all students follow the course People Management. So, if you liked this course, feel free to continue with Strategic HRM. If you are an adventurous personality, you might want to opt for the course Global Citizenship.

In Global Citizenship, you choose a project that will broaden your horizon. Some examples are:

  • A 1-month internship in an international company or organisation in Belgium or abroad.
  • Join one of the study trips, organised by our enthusiastic staff. Destinations students visited in the past: Berlin, China, Madrid, Salamanca, Budapest, etc.
  • Design your own study trip to any country in the world.
  • Follow a summer school on digital marketing, an intensive language course or a challenging project with locals in a developing country.
  • Present your own proposal and surprise us!

Third year

In the third year, you have the opportunity to spend at least one term of study in a foreign country, at one of our worldwide partner institutions. We strongly recommend complementing this with an internship abroad in the second semester. There's a reason why you chose International Organisation and Management after all, right? International students can choose between going abroad or continuing their foreign experience in Belgium. We also offer an IOM @ home programme.
